I am a big fan of Mondays. There I said it. And it’s because Mondays to me imply new beginnings, a chance to start fresh and a chance to work towards my goals. You know the kind of excitement that people get when a new year rolls in, I have the same feelings for Mondays.
But it wasn’t always like that.
I used to hate Mondays. Yes, hate is a strong word but it’s true. I used to hate Mondays so much that I used to start sulking on Sunday evenings. I know it sounds kiddish, but it’s true.
So how did I go from hating Mondays to now loving them?
Well, I created a routine for myself and did a few things to shift my mindset, so that I see Mondays as a day to start working even harder towards my goals. And while some of it is mindset shift, but there are still some things that you can consciously do, to make your new week a whole lot better. It is called a RESET.
A RESET allows you to start the new week on a positive note irrespective of how your past week has been. Often times we get so caught up in the failures when there are any that we forget that these are just hiccups. And we lose track of the end goal. You all can relate to this, I am sure. It’s like you are on a diet and then one day you eat out or eat unhealthy and then you do it again and before you know it, your diet is down the drain. But this RESET allows you to be intentional with things that you want to do and makes the coming week 10x better.
But you don’t need an elaborate Weekend reset routine. I mean who has the time right?
And even if you do have the time, maybe you just want to spend it watching a movie or going out with friends. Because we get just two days off (most of us) and no one wants to spend an entire day doing the reset and preparing for the week ahead.
That’s why I spend about 2 hours on my weekly reset and no more. And that’s when I am doing grocery shopping and meal prepping too. And you can too.
This small weekend routine means I can enjoy the weekend at my pace doing things that I want to do and not having a worry in the world. But during the weekend I find 2 hours to prepare for the week ahead and save myself from Sunday night anxiety, which then reflects as Monday morning blues.
So here is everything you need to do for the WEEKLY RESET:
1.Clear out your Mail:
This is on my top priority so that I don’t miss any important emails. And when you do it weekly it doesn’t take that long either. I usually check my mails 3-4 times a week but on every Sunday I delete the mails that I no longer need and reply to ones that need replying. I also go ahead and clear out my junk and spam folders from the mailbox. This very small step helps me be at top of my productivity game on Monday mornings.
2.Meal Planning & Grocery Shopping:
I am not one of those people who do grocery shopping multiple times a week. I could, but I don’t. Mainly because grocery shops are designed in a way to make you spend a lot of time in there. And when you spend a lot of time doing groceries, you buy things you don’t need. That’s why I never go grocery shopping without a list.
So grocery shopping and meal planning is something that happens over the weekends. Meal planning is important because I hate wasting food and when you don’t plan out your meals, a lot of things end up going bad before you get a chance to use them.
I don’t do the bento box meal prepping thing because I cannot have the same thing for my meals every single day. And also because I don’t like having already prepared food. I like having my meals fresh. But that doesn’t mean I can’t do any meal prep.
I like doing some basic meal prepping like peeling and chopping veggies or preparing tomato and ginger garlic paste etc. And all these small things help too. It makes preparing the meals during the week so much more efficient. It is all about trying a few things and see what works for you and what doesn’t.
4.Tidying Work Space:
Nothing excites me more to start a new work week, than a clean tidy work space. And on weekends I like tidying and decluttering my desk. I do some basic declutter on weekdays too, because I really can’t stand a cluttered desk. but on weekends I clean it thoroughly and redecorate too, at times. Even small things like sharpening all my pencils makes a difference when you are starting your work on Monday.
5.Tidy kitchen and Bathroom Counters:
I don’t know about you but my kitchen and bathroom counters get quite cluttered throughout the week. So wiping down all the surfaces and putting things in their right place makes such a difference.
At this point I also make sure to change all the towels in the bathrooms and the kitchen dish towels etc. Sometimes I will run an extra load of laundry especially for all the towels and cleaning clothes if I am feeling it. Otherwise it gets done on laundry day.
6.Change your sheets & Make bed:
This is honestly Life changing. I swear. I like changing my sheets on Friday because that’s the laundry day for us. But you can do it on a Sunday or whenever you have the time on the weekend. It is so simple and yet so effective. And it feels amazing to get into a cozy clean bed when you sleep on Sunday night.
7.Schedule the week Ahead:
Take out a few minutes to go over your appointments and schedule the coming week. If you use time blocking, make sure you are not over planning your week because some things are bound to come up and the last thing you need is an over packed schedule. it will just give you more anxiety and will prove to be counter productive.
8.Pamper your self:
You do so much throughout the week and it’s important to take time out for yourself. During the week self care is almost never a priority for us because life is so busy. But, Weekend reset is all about pampering yourself because you absolutely deserve it. I love oiling my hair & putting on a face mask. Or doing a pedi/mani at home (can’t get it done from someone else because I am ticklish).
9. Plan outfits for the week:
This is great if you struggle with finding outfits to wear every single morning. If every morning you find yourself standing in from of your closet wondering what to wear, then you might wanna give it a try. It will save you so much time in the mornings when things are hectic and reduce the time pressure.
Same goes for workout clothes as well. If you go to gym directly from work, you may want to plan out your workout clothes for the week. It will be one less things to worry about in the mornings. Go ahead, give it a try.
10. Empty Trashcans & Dishwasher:
There is something so satisfying about emptying the trash cans and the dishwasher. It makes you feel like you have things under control and helps you start the new week on a fresh note. And again, it is one less thing you need to take care of, during the week.
There you have it, my quick and easy Weekly reset routine. That’s everything that I do to be prepared for the week ahead. Let me know what are some things that you do on the weekend to start your new week on the right note! 🙂
