Let’s talk about setting up pinterest for business:
While a lot of people use Pinterest for collecting ideas on various topics, using it for business is a different story. And if you are using Pinterest for business, firstly you need to turn your pinterest account into a business account. it’s free and takes 5 minutes. just go to your pinterest account settings and make the change.
Having a business Pinterest profile will allow you to see the analytics for your pins. These analytics will come in handy when you are trying to optimise your account and will also help you determine which boards perform well, what does your audience wants to see more of and what are the best times for pinning.
Now that you have switched to a business profile, here are all the things you need to take care of.
1. Pinterest BIO:
Optimising your Pinterest profile name and your Pinterest bio is super important. The minute people come to your Pinterest profile, they should be able to tell what your blog is about. And one easy way to do that is to include keywords in your profile name.
And the other way to do so is to use related keywords in your Pinterest bio. Here is ours for example.

2.SET UP BOARDS & OPTIMISE:
After setting up your profile and bio, the next thing you need to do is set up a few relevant boards and optimise the board as well.
So for example, if you have blogposts about Indian recipes you want to try, the it makes sense to name that board “Indian recipes to try” rather than “Dinner” . That’s just the anming of the board though.
While optimising your Pinterest account, you also need to write descriptions for all the boards. This description tells Pinterest’s algorithm what your board is about.
Do not make the mistake of leaving the description empty. Also, do not make the mistake of stuffing keywords in the description. But writing a short description that has the related keywords is considered ideal.
How to set up rich pins:
Now that you have optimised your bio and your boards, it’s time to get Rich PINS for your Pinterest.
Again, this takes about 5-10 minutes. Having rich pins for your Pinterest will help you get more traffic to your website. Rich pins allow users to click on the pin and go directly to your website.
WHAT ARE RICH PINS?
Rich pins are simply Pins on pinterest that display your website anme and icon at the bottom, hence making the pinterest users reach the source of the pin(your blog) that they want to check out more easily! It is a wonderful tool to ggain more traction on pinterest and rich pins often tend to get more clicks than regular pins. If you are confused, below is an example of a rich pin:
The website name displayed at the bottom of the rich pin is clickable and takes you directly to the blog to which the pin is connected.
DO YOU NEED RICH PINS?
Yes you do. People have been going on and on about how getting rich pins has improved the traction that they get on pinterest. And also, it is super simple to do so, it won’t take more than 5 minutes, I promise and it’s FREE.
HOW TO GET RICH PINS?
Alright, so now that you are ready to level up your pinterest game, let’s get you started. If you are a wordpress user, considering that 80% of websites are built on wordpress, it is super simple.
STEP 1: Download YOAST SEO plug-in
Yoast SEO plugin is a must for your blog, whether you want the rich pins or not. It is an amazing SEO tool and if used properly, it is quite helpful too. Why you need Yoast SEO plug-in for rich Pins is because the Pinterest Rich Pin Validator requires you to add some meta tags to your site and if you hate the technical geeky coding side of it as much as I do, worry not, Yoast will do that for you.
After you have downloaded and installed the yoast plug-in, head to the features tab and make sure the advanced settings page is ENABLED.
STEP 2: Rich Pin Validator
Go to pinterest’s rich pin validator and plug in link to any blog post. You need to go just one and when validated, it will automatically convert all your pins to rich pins.
STEP 3: Apply
Once you have done step 2 and you get a message that says “your Pin has been validated”. Then clcik on “Apply now” and a pop up comes wiht your domain name and the HTML tags, clcik apply now again and your work is done.
Pinterest will then take 2-3 days to validate your application and approve. Once approved, all your pins get converted to rich pins and your website domain name is displayed at the bottom of all your pins. This was easy, right?
Pinterest Pining strategy:
Your Pinning strategy will be a mix of :
- How Often to Pin?
- Where to Pin?
- How to pin?
- What time to pin?
If you want a detailed breakdown of our exact pining strategy, then we recommend you check out this post : OUR PINING STRATEGY . But here are the main points that you need to consider while making your own strategy. Of course your results will be different that ours. Something that worked for us might not work for you or the time that it takes might be different. but these are the main things to consider:
How Often to Pin?
Pinterest Algorithm loves active users. So we would recommend you to pin daily. it does not take more than 10 minutes even if you are pinning manually. Just make sure that you are pinning good pins that rank higher on the algorithm.
WHERE TO PIN?
Whenever we publish a blogpost, we pin it to the most relevant board first. So if you have two boards : One is recipes and other is One pot recipes and you have a blogpost on a new one pot recipe then pin it to the most relevant board which is “one Pot Recipes” first.
When talking about group boards, we also want to point out that group boards are the most amazing way to boost your traffic but agin, be social and share pins from group boards too. When starting out we recommend you keep the group boards diversified and join at least 10. Of course you want to look for group boards where there are active users
HOW TO PIN?
A lot of people ask us this question whether they should eb pinning manually or should use a service like Tailwind. And our answer is always the same.
Start with Manual pinning first, then give the free tailwind account a try and then if you see the results and are convinced, then upgrade to the paid version of tailwind.
Why we recommend Manual pinning is because you will learn a lot this way. When you are pinning manually, you will be able to better analyse which boards work better. Of course there are analytics to tell you that but we think when you learn and understand the logic behind it, it will take you a long way.
However, if you have been a Pinterest user for quite some time and are still struggling to bring in traffic to your website, then TAILWIND is the way to go. Tailwind will make your life so much easier because it doesn’t take long to schedule your pins for the entire week.

WHAT TIME TO PIN?
When you pin is very important. Most of your followers will be able to see your pin the moment you pin it and if all your audience is most active at 9:00 A.M. and you are pinning at say 10 P.M. , it’s not going to be very effective, is it?
And you are done! Your pinterest is all set. Now here are some of the best Pinterest practices you NEED to know. Use these pinterest practices and grow on pinterest.
