At the beginning of this year, I could have never imagined that I’d be writing a post like this. Who could have?
Such a weird time going on, right?
There is so much going on in the world and a lot of people are practising social distancing in hopes to fight Covid-19 and are self quarantined in their homes. And while it comes as something new to a lot of people, I am definitely used to it.
I have been working from home full time for the last almost 2 years now. And trust me, I know a thing or two about it. I have seen it all. From the anxiety of working from home to the “depression” that comes with social distancing to days when you feel so unproductive that you start questioning your self worth.
And I have seen what works and what doesn’t. So here is my guide on How to survive Quarantine:
Don’t treat this as a Vacation:
You do not want to treat this quarantine period as a vacation and get fat by the time quarantine gets over. I mean, sure Quarantine and chill is the new Netflix and chill but this won’t do you any good.
You could spend days watching Netflix and eating junk, but that doesn’t mean that you should. It is instead a time to be working on your health more than ever. You need to eat health and keep your immune system really strong.
So, here are my top tips:
HAVE A SCHEDULE:
First things first, you NEED to have a schedule and stick to it, like you normally would if you were still going to office. For those of you who are lucky enough to be working from home, it will be amazing. having a schedule allows you to be more productive throughout your day.
And if you need more tips on how to remain productive while working from home, checkout this post.
All these tips have helped me in getting more done throughout my day and in being productive as a full time work from home blogger. I also have a workflow as a blogger and don’t just do whatever comes at me.
Change & Get ready:
Now that you are home and working from home, and can’t go anywhere doesn’t mean you can’t get ready in the mornings. A lot of people like dressing up, doing their hair and makeup and if that’s something you like doing too, by all means do that.
But even if you don’t feel like it, you must at least change out of your Pajamas.
Sometimes I just change out of my pajamas into other comfy clothes but I always make sure to change.
Because by changing out of night clothes and my getting ready, you indicate your brain that it’s time to get into productive work mode.
Stay Active:
I know, I know. We can’t go out. We can’t go to the gym. But we can always do some home workouts.
Especially with the self isolation going on, a lot of gyms have started doing online “Live” classes on Instagram that you can join for free. There are also so many videos available on youtube for home workout videos without any equipment.
It is the perfect opportunity to make use of the time that we have at our hands and work on our fitness. Working out and getting your sweat on also releases so many endorphins, which are even more important in times like these because they life up your mood.
Learn Something New:
Is there something that you have always wanted to try? Maybe you have always thought about starting a blog but never had the time? Well, now you can start a money making blog.
Or maybe work on building a side hustle. Whatever it is. use this extra time to learn something new and to learn something fun. Again, there are so many classes available online and on platforms like skillshare and it is such a good time to make use of these classes.
If you have been meaning to learn a new language, now is the perfect time. Try Duolingo.
Catch up on your fav shows/books:
Now is the perfect time to catch up on watching your favourite shows that you never had time for before. And netflix and Prime video etc make it so much easier to binge watch your fav shows too. So if you are feeling really unproductive or demotivated, don’t beat yourself up.
Make yourself some tea or coffee, whatever you prefer, and binge watch your fav show. Some of our fav binge worth shows are:
- Stranger Things
- You
- Money Heist
- Brooklyn nine-nine
- This is Us
- Friends
- Grace & Frankie
Or maybe there is a reading list that you never had time for? Some of our fav books that we recommend reading are:
- The subtle art of not giving a F*ck
- Atomic habits
- A thousand Splendid suns
- 5 AM Club
- 4 hour Work week
- The secret
- Life changing magic of tidying up
- Ikigai: The Japanese secret to a long & happy life
Tidy/ Declutter:
I can not recommend decluttering enough. There is something about decluttering your physical space that clears up mental space too. And in times like these, we could all do with a little more mental clarity.
Even if you are not decluttering, just tidying up your place also works. Put things back in their places or rearrange the furniture around the house.
It is also the perfect time to take up home improvement projects that you didn’t have time for earlier.
Self Care:
I don’t know about you, but I almost always forget to oil my hair before I wash it. Mostly because weekdays are always so busy. But now that we are all in quarantine and are working from home, take time to indulge in some self care and why not make it a priority too.
Put on a face mask, a hair mask, oil your hair, whatever it is. You could also try a DIY Pedi-mani. I am making it a point to do one thing every day and I am hoping by the time this lockdown ends, it will become a part of my routine.
Home Cooked Meals:
Whether you are a beginner or you know how to cook, now is a great time to experiment with new recipes. Nourishing your body with healthy home cooked meals is of great importance.
I know it is super easy to fall into poor eating habits(in our busy lives) with all the packaged food available, but now that you have the time, why not try cooking yourself?
We are loving experimenting with new recipes and trying out different dishes. And since we are both at home these days, we love cooking together too.
Social Distancing doesn’t mean Isolation:
We know these are difficult times and that you are not allowed to go out. But technology makes it possible to stay connected with everyone. Make it a part of your routine to call your friends/parents and family to catch up.
Just because you are practising social distancing, doesn’t mean you have to feel alone. Stay connected with your friends and family over whatsapp/facetime. We love chatting with people on Instagram too, and are having even deeper conversations with our audience just because we have the time.
Those are all the tips that I have. And remember, we are all in this together. And of course, Stay Home, Stay safe! 🙂
Find us on Instagram, we are pretty active there! Come say hi! 🙂
