If you are reading this and are curious about what it is, let me just break it to you. In today’s day and age, the best ritual that is super important for a healthy happy married life is a Digital Detox, every day.
So what do we mean by a digital detox everyday?
It means switching off all the devices that you often “stare at” an hour/ hour and a half prior going to bed. You have to start somewhere right? It will allow you to spend quality time with each other, have real conversations( the kind that really matter), and pelt each other with kisses.
Before you go “I don’t need that kind of shit in my life. I have it under control.” Tell me if you have seen people out on a dinner/lunch date at a restaurant with the most perfect ambiance and lovely music but both of them so involved in staring at their phone screens?
I know I have.
I have even done that myself, more than once.
But before you think I am only talking about a digital detox on date night, I am NOT.
I am talking about everyday life as well. We have been there. Mostly after coming home from work, we used to turn on the TV, have dinner while watching television until one of us was half asleep, giving us no time to actually have meaningful conversation.
And the only “real” conversations we had during the weekdays were whats-app chats during the day, which was sort of sad. As sad as it is, it isn’t good for your marriage either. Because having these “conversations” on whats app means when you some times have disagreements, you express that also over chat. More often than not, things get miscommunicated because you can not really see the expressions or hear the tone of the voice. And even if you are “pro” at communicating via whats-app chats and have nothing to worry about, the digital detox goes way beyond that.
It is so easy to get into a routine(habit) of watching Tv daily before going to bed, and maybe you as a couple really enjoy watching a show together and even discussing it later, still you need some time for just the two of you. Trust me. You will thank me later.
Similar thing goes with your phone as well. You pick up your cell phone just to check time or whatever and then end up scrolling through the entire Instagram feed while your hubby is catching up on all the videos on Facebook.
It’s not impossible.
And it is no secret that the key to a happy marriage is communication and a digital detox might give you just what you have needed all along, quality time to spend with each other.
