Have you tried everything under the sun but just don’t seem to get the glossy clear skin like models? Do you want clearer skin and are wondering what are you doing wrong? In this post we are talking all about serious skincare mistakes that you’re probably making. And how fixing these skin care mistakes can help you get clearer and smoother skin that you so deeply wish for.
When it comes to skin care, more is not always more. Neither is less always more. In short, it can be quite confusing, especially if you have combination of oily and dry skin. And while finding out the right products that work for you is the key, it’s not always that simple.
And I know that you’re probably busy and don’t have a lot of time to indulge in skin care, but you could skin benefit by avoiding these serious skin acre mistakes.

#1: Not having a skincare routine in place:
Not having a skin care routine in place is the worst mistake you’re making right now. We are all busy and no one has the time to do a 10 step korean skin acre routine, no matter how much we want to. I get it.
I honestly do.
But the fact is, you don’t need a very elaborate routine to have good skin. All it needs is some daily pampering and care. Even if it’s something as simple as cleansing your face and then moisturising it everyday.
With so many of us working from home full time, it is even more important to have a skincare routine in place. And even though working right from your bed in your PJs is the ultimate goals for most people, I still highly recommend having a routine for the mornings and night.
I usually do a very basic skin care post shower. it involves cleansing my face with a gentle cleanser. And then applying a serum that absorbs well. And then hydrating with a light moisturiser that doesn’t clog the pores and isn’t too heavy on my skin. Simple as that.
And for the night routine I generally use some kind of rejuvenating serum and night repair cream right before bed. I use use an under eye cream for my dark circles. And that’s it.
I know it’s pretty simple but it serves me well. And when it comes to skincare, consistency is the key. No product, no matter how expensive or good it is, will show you results overnight. You need to be consistent and you need to follow the routine religiously for it to show you actual results.
#2: Not exfoliating enough or over exfoliating:
The next serious mistake that I see a lot of people making is not exfoliating enough. Or on the other end of the spectrum is over exfoliating. Both of which are not good for your skin. And while you need to exfoliate, over exfoliating does a lot of damage to your skin as well.
So you need to find that sweet spot between the two. Usually exfoliating twice a week is pretty good and works for a lot of people. However, if you have the time and if you are using a very gentle exfoliator, then you could even exfoliate daily.
Exfoliation helps in removing dead skin cells and dirt etc that gets accumulated on your skin. Exfoliating gets rids of these dead skin cells and lets healthy skin cells on the surface which results in smoother younger looking skin.
Lack of exfoliation on the other hand causes dead skin cells to build up on your skin and result in dry, patchy and flaky skin. And sometimes is also the cause of uneven skin tone or really dull looking skin.
So make exfoliating a habit and whenever you do that, make sure you are moisturising your skin pretty well afterwards. But again, refrain from using a moisturiser that’s too heavy on the skin and the kind that clogs your pores. your skin needs to be able to breathe to remain healthy.
#3: not eating right or drinking enough water:
Skin care, very much like your health is so much about what you put inside your body. And while sure having a great skin acre routine reallyu works, but it won’t really be effective if you are eating junk all the time.
Eating a lot of fatty foods and consuming a lot of dairy products results in your skin breaking out. So pay close attention to how your skin reacts to certain foods and avoid the ones that cause you to break out.
Generally speaking, it is a good idea to include more fruits and veggies in your diet and to cut back on sugars, processed foods and dairy products. Eating a more wholesome diet can help your skin looks better. And including natural sources of vitamin C can make your skin look younger.
Here are the foods that you should be eating more of:
- Spinach, kale and Greens
- Veggies: Carrots, broccoli etc
- Healthy fats like Avocado, nuts and seeds
- Whole grains
And here are some of the foods that you should avoid:
- Sugar and sugary drinks especially carbonated beverages
- Processed foods like chips etc
- Fried foods
- Dairy products
Other than eating right, drinking enough water also helps with the skin. Because when you are hydrated, so is your skin. And hydration is really the key when it comes to skin care. So make sure you’re drinking at least 10-12 glasses of water everyday.
#4:Not reading the labels on your skin care products:
Just because a product is expensive doesn’t mean it’s good for your skin. And whenever you’re buying skin care products it’s really important that you are reading the labels to make sure that the products that you’re putting on the skin do not have any chemicals that are toxic for your skin. You’d be surprised to find out how many skincare products actually have chemicals that aren’t good for you.
In general, avoid any products that contain alcohols because they dry out your skin. Sticking to clean beauty brands also makes it really easy. So find a brand that toxin free and natural and stick to those. I really love Kama Ayurveda, Forest essentials, But if you are based out of US the ordinary is really good one.
#5:Trying too many products at once:
When you are making a skin care routine, you want to avoid using and trying a lot of new products at once. That way you’ll never really understand what’s working for your skin and what’s not.
Whenever I decide to change my routine, I always change one product at a time. And I try the new product religiously for at least 30 days before deciding whether I want to include it in my routine or not. Because that gives me enough time to actually notice of the product is working for my skin or not.
#6:Skipping out on sunscreen:
Raise your hand if you are guilty of this one?
I know you probably are.
All of us know how important sunscreen is and at some point we have heard from people how getting in the habit of using sunscreen everyday has changed their skin totally.
And yet we forget, right?
Or if you are like me, maybe you’re simply too lazy sometimes. But still, I can not stress this enough. And yes, you need the sunscreen even if you are not going out. So why not make it a part of your daily morning routine?
Your skin will definitely thank you for it.
And that’s it. Skin care mistakes you need to avoid. And Skin acre mistakes you’re probably making right now. So avoid and fix these mistakes to take your skincare game to the next level. And you’ll be a lot closer to achieving clear smooth skin that you’ve always wanted.
