So beautiful, so diverse in culture and so rich in history.
From the colourful state of Rajasthan, to the stunning beaches of Goa, to busy cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, so many foods to try, so many places to see, planning a trip to India can be a tedious task. And the most difficult part is narrowing down what all you want to see on your trip to India.
For most people, it takes a little time to adjust to the noise, the aromas and India seems like that one country that is almost like an assault to all your senses, all five senses, at once, and planning and travelling in India gets quite tiring. It is impossible to see everything INDIA has to offer in a trip and most people get so confused with all the places they want to cover on their first trip.
Well, Let us make it a little easy for you. Here are our list of places that you absolutely shouldn’t miss on your first trip to India.
Delhi: Delhi is the capital of India and is so rich in history and culture. There are a couple of really touristy places like India Gate, qutab Minar and a lot of places where you will find stunning architecture but that aren’t as popular. Along with the architecture and the Mughal historical monuments, the food culture is also quite rich in Delhi. Here is our itinerary for exploring Delhi in 24 hours, if that’s all the time you have. But we highly recommend that you spend at least 2-3 days in the capital.
Jaipur: We love the entire state of Rajasthan because it’s so colourful and rich in culture. However, if you are not planning a long first trip and just want to get a taste of it, we’d highly recommend you include Jaipur in your itinerary. We have said multiple times that Jaipur is our favourite city to explore in India and it is heaven for photographers. Here is our list of all the “Instgrammable”places in Jaipur.
Manali & Spiti Valley: Most people who visit India, do not include Himachal in their itinerary but if you want to experience the Himalayas and the raw beauty, include spiti valley in your itinerary. Manali makes for a great mid-way stop between delhi and spiti valley and although it is quite touristy, it still has it’s charm.
Agra: Agra, otherwise known as the city of love in India, is where the famous Taj Mahal is. Being one of the seven wonders of the world, it is a must on everyone’s itinerary. Agra is at a short 3 hour drive from Delhi and one can either take a cab or take one of the many tour buses that operate between the two cities. Taj Mahal tend to get very crowded on most days and is closed on all Fridays, so make sure you go there early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds to some extent.
Goa: Goa is a totally different side of India and has so many stunning beaches to visit. If you want to explore the night life and the party scene in Goa, head to north Goa, but if you are looking for a relaxed couple of days, the beaches in the south of Goa are the best. Here is a list of our fav beaches to visit in Goa .
