Reflections: 3 Months of Being Married

Every one has always told me that Marriage is hard. Some of them say it with such conviction that you start thinking that married life is gonna be a lot of work. Now when people tell you that marriage is hard and all that, they always forget to mention the rather important half of the sentence that “it’s worth it”.

I have been married for about 3 months now, and before we got married all my friends used to tell me that this “Oh we are getting married” high that I and Nitin were riding on, is gonna end in some time. People often act shocked when we tell them that we had never had a fight in 3 years that we were dating before we got married. Some of my friends even said that we were both so madly in love that we were neglecting each other’s flaws.Β I am not saying we still think of each other as “perfect”, I just want to say that to say that marriage is all about love and rainbows would be wrong. That is not the whole picture, although it may seem like it from pictures or from a distance.

There are so many things that you have to deal with like miscommunication, dividing work in the house, and what not! There have been some days when we have disagreed with each other over everything and there have been some days where we haven’t talked for what seemed like hours(although it was minutes, mostly because I am really Impatient), but there is no one I’d rather disagree with or be silent with!Β

I am not sure whether I am making sense or not, but being married is putting in these efforts and knowing that it will make you happy from within. To think of these efforts as sacrifices and compromises would be wrong. These are just the hard work that you put in to have something really beautiful.

Despite all the work that you need to put in, being married is pretty awesome. Life will have its ups and downs and some days it will all be fun and then on some days, not so much! But when you are meant to be with someone it should be easy.

To sum it up I’ll leave you with a quote that I read recently which was about a woman who had been happily married for 60 years and she saidDo not be afraid to be the one who loves the most.”
