In this post, I am sharing some simple ways in which you can elevate your style. These simple tips will help you elevate your style and make sure you always look elegant and put together.
And no you don’t have to go about shopping for an entire new wardrobe. because elevating your style is all about the little details. It’s more about how you style things and less about buying new clothes.
These simple ways will make it look like you know what you’re doing. And no, you don’t need designer clothes. Neither do you need to buy all the trendy clothes that every one on Instagram is wearing. So here are 10 simple ways in this you can look like a million bucks without spending a lot on your wardrobe.

15 Easy ways to elevate your style:
#1: Invest in good quality classic pieces:
When it comes to basics like your denims, good quality classics are your best bet. So invest in pieces that are good quality, that won’t go out of fashion and that you know you’ll wear again and again. These pieces of clothing must fit you perfectly and most importantly, they should be comfortable.
Pay close attention to the fabric used and how long is the life of that fabric. Fabrics like linen, silk and satin will last you a lifetime if you take proper care of them. So it’s worth it to invest in these good quality pieces that will form the basis of your wardrobe.
Here are some basics that you should invest in:
- A Good pair of dark wash denims that fit you like a glove and are as comfortable as loungers
- A basic plain white shirt that you can dress up or down
- A classic blazer that you can dress up or down
- A little black dress that you can take from day to night time
- Dressy flats/pumps and heels that are comfortable too
- T-shirts/Camis to layer
#2: Be wary of trends:
While trends come and go, classic are forever. And the problem with trendy clothes is that they are quite difficult to style, without buying more accessories and shoes to go with them. So even if you really want to jump on a trend, think about how you could style it in different ways right now and in the future as well.
Whenever buying a piece of clothing, think about how many outfits you can get out of it. Buying a trendy dress just to wear it once, is not doing your wallet any good. And if you have clear idea of how you’ll accessorise it and make it look like an outfit, then maybe wait for some time. Because that’s the thing with trends, they come and go super quickly.
#3: Dress according to your body type:
Not all clothes are made of all body types. Even supermodels don’t look good in every piece of clothing that’s ever made. That’s just how it is. And a big part of elevating your style is figuring out what’s your body type and what looks good on you and what’s best suited for your body type.
#4: Wear clothes you are comfortable in:
And no I don’t mean wear lounge wear while going out. Seriously, don’t. But finding clothes that you feel confident in, is so important when you want to look chic. Wearing comfortable clothes make your style looks elevated.
Don’t wear clothes that don’t fit you properly. because no matter how expensive your clothes are, of they are super tight, it will end up making you uncomfortable and looks very shabby.
#5: Always steam or iron your clothes:
Steaming or ironing your clothes doesn’t take long and goes a long way. Wrinkled clothes dampen your style in a way nothing else does. They make you look shabby, no matter how well you accessorise and how great your complete outfit is.
And a well steamed, wrinkle free outfit looks way more polished even though it might have cost half of the luxury wrinkled piece of clothing.
#6: Focus on the accessories:
Wonder why some women look chic even in basic jeans and denim? It’s all in the accessories. Accessories help create a whole outfit where everything goes together. Styling your clothes with the right shoes and the right accessories is the key. If you have trouble figuring out what works together, Pinterest is full of outfit ideas and a great place to learn.
I also save outfits that I like on Instagram and keep going back to them later to see what I like about those outfits. But, experimenting with accessories and figuring out what you like is the key.
#7: Dress in Monochrome:
Whenever in doubt, go monochrome. Dressing in same color from head to toe can make your look go from a bleh 10-20 to a solid 100. I am not saying you have to wear body con sets like the Kardarshians lol, but yes, monochrome is the way to go. It instantly elevates your style and makes you look like a million bucks, again, without spending a lot of money.
#8: No visible bra straps:
In my opinion, visible bra straps look really tacky. And even more so when you are using transparent straps and are trying to “hide” the strap. I am guilty of this one, back when I was in Uni, lol. I thought I was being so cool haha. But clearly not. I have nothing against bra straps, really. But when it is your regular eevryday bra, it just doesn’t look good.
However if you intentionally choosing to show off your bra straps, and wearing something deep cut or off shoulder, then yes go for it, honey! Just make sure it’s a pretty bra strap, maybe something lacy. There are also some really cute graphic ones.
#9: Ditch the tank tops:
Tank tops are something you should leave behind when you leave school or uni. IF you want to elevate your style, replace the tank tops with silk and satin camis that look really elegant and just as easy to layer. it’s all about the right fabrics that look super luxurious.
And the best thing is that they are as comfortable as thank tops but they look so much better. They look like you’ve put in efforts in dressing up, even when you haven’t. And you don’t need a whole lot of them. Just start with black, nude and a white one. they will go with just about everything.
#10: Think about your undergarments:
What you wear under your clothes is juts as important as your clothes, maybe even more than the actually clothes themselves. No matter how luxurious your top is, if you’re wearing an ill fitting bra, you will never be able to make it look good. So invest in some full coverage daily wear bras that are comfortable so that you can wear them all day long.
Same goes for your panties. Nothing spoils the look of a classy skirt than panty lines. So invest in some no show panties or the seamless ones that aren’t visible through your clothes. Also pay attention that you’re not wearing really dark colored undergarments with white clothes, as they tend to show. You’re better off with nude undergarments.
These are all some really small changes that make big differences.
#11: Try pointy shoes:
Pointy shoes can make any outfit look better. and it doesn’t even have to be pointy heels. Pointy flats can also do the trick because they elongate your legs and make them look longer than they actually are. Which makes any outfit look more elegant and put together.
#12: No uggs when going out:
Remember the time when Uggs were the trend and everybody was wearing them out? Even Mila Kunis! But, the things is, that was a time in the past. Uggs are not hot right now and they certainly never were elegant. So if you want to elevate your style, treat the uggs as slippers.
Uggs make it look like you didn’t put in any efforts before stepping out. You just wore your comfy winter slippers when you stepped out to get coffee. And you might as well be wearing your night suit or Pjs with them, because they go perfectly together.
#13: Leave Body con dresses at the mall:
Same goes with body con dresses that fit you like a glove. While having the color block bandage dress was all the rage a few years back, they just aren’t in anymore. Instead select a body hugging dress in one solid color, preferably with long sleeves. They look very elegant and can instantly take your style up a notch. You do not have to wear something that fits you like a glove throughout.
If it fits you well and accentuates your chest, maybe go for longer sleeves or a slightly longer dress. If it is body hugging, knee length looks way more elegant than mini dresses. You get the point, right? You don’t want too much happening all at once.
#14: Flips flops are for the beach:
Okay I am sorry to say this , but your flips flops are best for the beach or to wear around the house. I mean even for the beach there are so many options for cute water proof sandals, but flips flops are still acceptable at the beach. If you want something comfy that goes with everything, try finding some slide ons or sandals in tan or nude. They are as comfy and look way more elegant that your regular flip flops.
#15: Wear clothes that fit perfectly:
Again, fit is everything. Do not buy something if it doesn’t fit you perfectly or if you don’t have your tailor as your best friend. In that case, you could get away with buying a size that’s too big for you and they can alter it exactly how you want it. Sometimes, it looks even better, because the standard sizes you find at the stores are not made to suit all body types.
And that’s it. Some super simple ways to elevate your style. As you can see, you don’t need to buy a lot of luxury items to look chic and elegant. Liked this post? Check out more here.
