Do you ever wonder why do some women look gorgeous when they wake up, while you look like a hot mess? No, not like the actresses in movies or the people on Instagram with their “I woke up like this” selfies. But if you want to wake up looking fresh, these tips will help. These simple tips will help you look good in the mornings. Yes, even without makeup.
So, a little short story.
I HATE makeup. Hate is probably a very strong word, but it’s true. Not even exaggerating. My idea of putting on makeup is some lipstick or gloss and some mascara. And that’s it. I don’t like the feeling of putting on products on my skin. Well, at least products that cover up my natural skin.
You could say I have been very confident in my skin.
But the truth is, I was least bothered about how I looked. And hence, the no make up morning face. But that quickly changed when I got a corporate job and started going to office.
Only because I wanted to look like I had put efforts in getting ready and I wanted to look professional aka not look like I just rolled out of bed. Even though sometimes I had gone to the office without even taking a shower. I am kind of ashamed to admit this, but again, that doesn’t stop it from being true. Crossing my fingers that none of my ex-colleagues reads this. but I lowkey don’t care if they do haha.
So, the thing is, because I wanted to look put together and look like I care about how I look, I started trying on ways that would help me look good in the mornings. And probably also reduce the time I’d need to get ready to go to the office.
And believe me when I say this, I have tried a LOT of things. But here are the ones that have worked really well. And I am sure they’ll work for you as well. So, without going into the juicy details of the weirdest things I have tried(will share that some other time LOL), here are the best ones:

11 tips to wake up looking gorgeous:
#1:protect your do:
Usually, your hair takes the longest time when it comes to getting ready and looking presentable. And as lazy as I have already told you I am, I am not one of those people who do their hair every single day. I mean, who has the time. And even if I had the time, I’d rather spend it on making myself a healthy breakfast and having it in peace.
So, if you want to wake up looking good in the mornings, you need to protect your hair do. Protect your curls, so that you don’t have to curl your hair every single day. I usually put it in a top knot bun and wrap it with a satin scarf. i find satin is the best because it is very gentle on my hair.
#2: Start with skin care at night:
Looking good in the mornings, starts the night prior. So if you want to wake up looking fresh, you need to tend to your skin at night. That means that a skin care regime should be a part of your night time routine.
Yes, you do need the routines otherwise you’ll do it once a week and forget it on rest of days because you’re really tired. We have all been there.
- So start with washing your face with a non toxic cleanser
- Put on a hydrating night time repair serum and cream
- Put on an eye Cream
And that’s it for me. You could of course ad more steps to your routine. But I like keeping it simple and fuss free. And that helps me in sticking to it every single day.
#3: Don’t forget to moisturise:
If there is one thing that you do, it should be this. I can not stress this enough. Moisturise. And not just your face, but the rest of your body too. This is the reason why I use an under eye cream, a hand and foot cream and a body lotion. Having well moisturised hands and feet in the morning is the best feeling ever. I know it sounds funny, but you’d know if you have tried. And I am sure you’d agree with me on this.
Oh and don’t forget about the lips. When your lips are hydrated, even a little bit of lip gloss looks good and you don’t need to do much. And even if you do want to apply lipstick, not having chapped lips makes everything easy and makes everything look good.
#4:Sleep at a reasonable hour:
You shouldn’t sleep at 3 or 4 AM in the morning binging on Netflix and then expect to look bangin’ in the morning. I am sorry to break it to you but your habit of staying up till late watching Netflix or just scrolling your Instagram feed is not doing you any good. but you knew that already, didn’t you?
I knew you were a smart cookie. But why do you keep making these bad choices then?
Sorry to be such a ball buster, but you need the tough love.
Also make sure you’re getting enough sleep. On an average a human needs 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
#5: Hydrate:
If you want to look good, hydrate. Just like you skin needs to be moisturised, your body needs to be hydrated. We are made up of about 70% water after all. And we need water to function properly.
Drinking enough water boosts our metabolism, makes our skin look good and keeps us feeling fresh and energetic. You’d be surprised to see how much of a difference it makes when you just drink more water. So, at the risk of sounding like your mom, please keep yourself hydrated if you want to wake up looking fresh.
#6:Sleep on a sAtin pillow case:
Replace your regular cotton or linen pillow cases with a satin pillow case. It is good for your skin, it is good for your hair and it feels like you’re sleeping in a cloud. Satin is the softest thing ever. Sleeping on satin also prevents wrinkles. So it’s a win-win.
While we are talking about pillow cases, make sure you wash it regularly in order to avoid any breakouts. your pillow cases collect more dust than you think.
#7: No phone/screen at least 2 hours prior:
Make it a habit to stop using your phone at least 2 hours before going to bed. I also always use blue light glasses when I am working on screens throughout the day (which is most days haha). Limiting the use of screens before going to bed makes sure you get quality sleep.
And getting good sleep means less dark circles and under eye bags which means you wake up looking fresh and all pretty.
#8: Wake up at the same time every morning:
Waking up at around the same time every morning is also a great habit to adopt if you want to wake up looking fresh and beautiful. When you wake up around the same time every morning, your body sleep cycles adjust and your body naturally wakes up around that time.
And when your sleep cycle gets in synch, you wake up feeling a lot fresher and looking a lot more beautiful.
#9: Nourish your body:
Nourishing your body and taking care of nutrition is important too. When you consume foods that are high in fats and sodium, you feel lethargic, gain weight, start breaking out. I am not trying to scare you, but maybe I am. But only because I want you to do better.
Nourish your body with proper foods and it will soon start showing in your skin, your body and your energy levels. Not to say that you’ll be one energetic bunny every single morning, but it makes a LOT of difference. If you are not used to eating mindfully, count your calories to begin with. But also keep a watch on your macros. Make sure you are eating your proteins, healthy fats and fibres.
Also keep in mind to always take your supplements and your greens. Every little bit helps.
#10: Workout:
Working out and getting your sweat on everyday is the best way to get that glow that no amount of serum can give you.
When you workout and sweat it out, your body frees itself of the toxins that had built up and it gives your skin a healthy glow that comes from within. So make sure you are working out every day. No matter what workout you decide to do, keep your body moving. I usually do a mix of HIIT, cardio and strength training throughout the week.
#11: Do not hit the snooze button:
You didn’t see this coming, did you? When you snooze your alarm to get those extra 5 minutes of “Beauty sleep” , you are actually doing yourself more harm than good. When you hit the snooze button, your body gets the indication to start another sleep cycle.
And sleep cycles are about 90 minutes. But you wake up after 1 or 2 snoozes, so that’s 5 to 15 minutes, which doesn’t give your body enough time to complete that sleep cycle. And you wake up feeling groggy and like you were hit by a bus.
